About The Reeves and Heider Families
Please sign in to see more. I believe, above all other things, that I am what I am because of the personalities from whom I have drawn my being, my likes, my dislikes, my talents and the various other reactions of my nature, mental, physical and spiritual. I also believe that the more I can learn of the characters who have preceded me in this life, and about their struggles, their trials, their temptations and their triumphs, their modes of life, their sympathies, their associations and their environment, the better I am qualified to meet the emergencies and the changes of my own life; for therein lies my knowledge to the cause and source of my own reactions which need my curbing, or my guidance. Antidotes, stories, pictures, achievements, successes, and even failures, the loves, the hates, the difficulties, the disasters and the romances concerning our immediate, as well as the more remote ancestors; all have had their peculiar share in shaping and forming our own personalities. Each of us know perfectly well about some of the more likeable tendensies and expressions of our natures, so knowing about them, it is more easy for us to cultivate and improve them by persistant watchfulness.
Beatitudes of a Family Historian
Blessed are the ancestors who saved the ships' list and port-of-entry records. For they tell how, why, when, whence, and where they came. Blessed are the forfathers who fought for our independence,
For thus we became a nation.
Blessed are the great grandfathers who were elected to public office, For thus were our freedoms preserved.
Blessed are the great grandmothers who recorded the births, marriages, and deaths in the family Bible,
For this is our continuity.
Blessed are the grandparents who keep alive the family legends and traditions, For this is our legacy.
Blessed are the mothers and fathers who preserve family records and nourish the love of kith and kin,
For such is a lesson in loyalty.
Blessed are the "Cousins" who answer quaries, fill out ancestry charts and family sheets, and share the family anecdotes,
For thus we learn our relationship.
Blessed are those saintly librarian and guardian angels of court house records who welcome ancestor-hunters,
For thus we document our data.
Blessed are those children who honor their parents and patiently listen to thrice told tales of good and old days.
For the honoring is a commandent of our Heavenly Father, and the listening with patience is a joy to hearts of the parents.
